Before It’s Mandatory: Understanding OAS CAHPS

The CMS ASC Quality Reporting (ASCQR) measure, ASC-15 Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Survey (OAS CAHPS), collects information about patients’ experiences of care in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs). This currently voluntary measure will become mandatory in 2025 for all ASCs with noncompliant facilities subjected to a 2% reduction in their annual Medicare payment update. This session will provide the information you need to know regarding CMS-approved survey vendors, survey purpose and details, ASC implementation guidelines, and public reporting.

Meet The Speaker

Kristi Burgess DNP, RN

Kristi Burgess is a passionate healthcare professional with over 28 years of experience in nursing, nursing education, administration, and patient satisfaction. Her journey in nursing began with a deep-rooted desire to make a difference in community health, leading her to earn a master’s degree in nursing from Jacksonville State University in 2001. Her commitment to quality patient care drove her to further her education, completing her Doctorate of Nursing Practice at the University of South Alabama in 2011.

Currently, Kristi is the Director of Business Development at J.L. Morgan & Associates in Birmingham, AL. In this role, she finds immense joy in combining her expertise in quality improvement and patient satisfaction with her love for teaching. Working with a CMS CAHPS-approved vendor and a post-utilization nursing assessment program, she helps hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) enhance their patient care and satisfaction.

Kristi’s career is fueled by her dedication to improving healthcare outcomes and her genuine passion for supporting both patients and healthcare professionals. She believes in the power of education and strives to create environments where quality care and patient satisfaction are top priorities.
